Yes, the blades are removable from the glass jar for easy cleaning. Simply turn the collar counterclockwise to release the blades from the jar. Wash in hot, soapy water or place in the top rack of the dishwasher.

Is there a trick for getting the lid on and off easily?

To install the lid, align pour spout on jar with pour spout on lid. Press down on spout side first, then press down evenly on opposite side of lid (near jar handle). To remove lid, use your thumb to press up on edge of lid near the handle.
